Our Voices – August 2024

HOPE AND JOY!

HAPPY DAYS ARE HERE AGAIN!
I have never seen so much excitement over a Democratic presidential campaign, over any campaign for that matter.  Obama’s is the closest in recent experience.  It is as if a heavy veil has been lifted from our souls and we can feel joy again.  The Harris/Walz ticket is embracing the joy and optimism that is at the core of the American spirit!

Despite all the terrible news involving international conflict, the environment and dystopian scenarios, Americans generally believe that things can get better and that we can help make them better.  And that is what this election is about:  How we can work together to create a society better for everyone.

This is a challenge each one of us is going to be called upon to meet this fall.    Clearly, a large portion of the American electorate believe differently, continuing to feed off the meandering ramblings of an aging huckster who still has some entertainment value.  As Mark Twain once said, “ it is easier to fool people than to convince them they have been fooled.”  And in all honesty, we have all been fooled at least once in our lifetimes so let us cut our opponents some slack while doubling down to volunteer and do what we can to convince them otherwise.

To that end, the Sagadahoc Democratic Party welcomes all volunteers, regardless of political affiliation to help usher in a New Beginning this fall.  We will be holding a meeting at our Topsham HQ on September 5th both in person and via Zoom.  Look for details later this newsletter and Thank You!

Richard Kessler
Chair, Sagadahoc County Democratic Party

Join us on September 5th as we deploy our game plan for victory!

There is so much excitement and momentum building in support of the Harris/Walz ticket as well as all the critically important races up and down the ballot.  We will be holding a meeting Thursday September 5th  to discuss our action plan and deploy our resources.  This meeting will be a hybrid meeting—held at the Sag Dems offices and also via zoom.  We hope you’ll join us!

When: Thursday September 5, 2024 5:00pm

Where: Sag Dems Offices, 24 Main Street Topsham and via Zoom (link to come one week prior to the event).

We know you are excited, and we know you are wondering what you can do NOW.  First and foremost, share this email with family, friends and neighbors, and invite them to join our ranks!

The Maine Democratic Party Platform and the National Democratic Party Platform are available to read.

Additionally, here is a list of things you can do right now:

1. Project 2025 is central to the Trump reelection campaign and represents a clear and present danger to our Democracy and fundamental liberties – and it would impact everyone, and every aspect of our lives.  Learn more about Project 2025 here:

2. Help register new voters, and make sure their registration is still valid. The following have valuable tools and dynamic organizations:

3. Help Get Out The Vote and educate new voters to vote up and down the ballot:

4. The list of Biden-Harris administration accomplishments over the last 3.5 years, is just too long to fit in this newsletter. To be able to converse with friends, family, and neighbors about it, it is important for us to refresh our memory about the major issues this administration successfully tackled:

5. Donate! Donate! Donate!  Many of us have already opened our purse strings. If you still have a few coins left looking for a purpose, make sure you have given to our clean election Sagadahoc, District 24, city and federal candidates, up and down the ballot. Here is the link to do so.

Some state and federal races across the country will have different and outsized importance on who will control not only the White House, but also the House and the Senate.  If you are interested, these two national organizations can help you find out where your donations will have the most impact:

Did we hear you ask about lawn signs?

We will receive lawn signs from the MEDEMS this week and they will be distributed to the Municipal Chairs promptly.

Signs will also be available at our County Committee meeting on Sept. 5th at our Topsham office.
