What Happens When You Die

What Happens When You Die

June 17, 2023 10:30AM – Conversation on the Issues

Join the Sagadahoc Democrats at our Topsham Office, 24 Main Street, Topsham for our monthly “Conversation on the Issues” on Saturday, June 17th at 10:30 am.

June’s Conversation will be with Jean Guzzetti, Sagadahoc County’s outgoing Registrar of Probate, who will share what she’s learned about the Probate Court and how the work there affects the lives of every day Mainers.

“Probate Court is one of those places you never really think about, until a life changing event brings you to its doors – whether it’s the death of a loved one and needing to figure out next steps to distribute their property, an accident or addiction that leaves someone you care about incapacitated and unable to make their own decisions or care for their children, or the heartbreaking scenario, which the Court sees all too often, of an elderly parent facing end-of-life decisions that they no longer have the faculties to make.”

Come and bring your friends to find out what the Probate Court does, what it means to “Probate a Will” or “File for Guardianship” and discuss some of the common and preventable pitfalls when filing with the Court. Jean will also touch on other proceedings handled by the Court, such as name changes and adoptions.
