Vote NO on Question 1 – Nov 4 2025

Fair, secure, and accessible elections are the cornerstone of our democracy. But a referendum question (Question 1) coming to Maine voters in November 2025 takes aim at Maine’s safe and secure voting system, including absentee voting. This referendum would make it harder for people across the state to vote – especially seniors, Mainers with a disability, and Mainers without reliable transportation.

If passed, Question 1 would dismantle the Maine absentee voting system that we trust and rely on by:

  • Banning prepaid return postage for absentee ballots
  • Preventing ballot requests by phone or for a family member
  • Ending ongoing absentee voter status for seniors and voters with disabilities
  • Limiting the number of secure ballot dropboxes municipalities can provide
  • Shortening the time period for early absentee voting

This ballot measure is about much more than just Voter ID. If it passes, many Mainers will see their access to the ballot box unfairly restricted. For the full text of proposed changes to Maine’s voting procedures, click here.

Maine’s election system is safe, secure and allows every eligible voter to cast their ballot.

That’s why in 2024, 40% of Mainers voted absentee, including 60% of seniors!.Question 1 would particularly hurt rural voters, seniors, working families and people with disabilities.
